About Versos & Charamuscas:
Our First Annual Poetry event highlighting Salvadoran Voices! The theme of this year's event was titled: Versos & Charamuscas: A Journey of Bittersweet Identities and featured 5 poets sharing bittersweet experiences in which they've all found empowerment in hopes of inspiring you! The event was held on zoom this year and people joined us with their cafecito, mimosas, and charamuscas for some versos and good vibes.
Meet the Poets:
Astrid
Astrid is a Salvadoran American poet and journalist based in Los Angeles. While at Cal State Dominguez Hills, she was captain of the slam poetry team and president of the poetry club, FLOW. Author of the book, Through the Soil in My Skin. For more info: poetastrid.com
C. Adán Cabrera
C. Adán Cabrera is a Salvadoran-American writer and translator based in Barcelona, Spain. His debut book of short stories Books Can Only Take You So Far explores the complex intersections of race, class and sexuality. Visit him online at cadancabrera.net
Edyka Chilomé
Edyka Chilomé is a queer child of migrant activists from occupied Lenca (San Miguel, El Salvador) as well as Zacateco (Zacatecas, Mexico) territories who raised her in the tradition of spiritual activism. Javier Zamora
Javier Zamora was born in El Salvador and migrated to the US when he was nine. Unaccompanied, is his first collection. He lives in Tucson, Arizona where he’s finishing a memoir. More info at: javierzamora.net
Jose Richard Aviles
Jose Richard Aviles is a multimedia artist, out of Los Angeles. Currently, Aviles is promoting their first published collection of poems, Semilla and developing a new poetry EP, "La Carta Que Nunca Envie", an homage to Juan Gabriel and the countless lovers that are hidden in the lyrics. Yesika Salgado
Yesika Salgado is a Los Angeles based Salvadoran poet who writes about her family, her culture, her city, and her fat brown body. She is a two-time National Poetry Slam finalist and the recipient of the 2020 International Latino Book Award in Poetry. For more info: yesikasalgado.com
